A mentally healthy cop is a good cop.

Jeff Stine

Founder of Cover Now Retired Police Officer

Jeff Stine is a retired police officer from Southern California whose career, and later calling, were shaped by witnessing the unseen wounds carried by those in uniform. After losing a close friend and academy classmate to suicide, Jeff founded Cover Now, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting law enforcement officers and their families through confidential mental health care, peer support, and financial relief.

“The number one killer of police officers in America is themselves”

MORE BACKGROUND

Jeff doesn’t speak about officers from a distance, he speaks as one of them. His personal journey through trauma, PTSD, and healing fuels his mission to change how we care for first responders. His message is simple: no one should suffer in silence, especially those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.

In 2024, Jeff and Cover Now joined forces with Wholehearted.org to bring more light, more voice, and more support to this growing epidemic. Together, they are working to break through the silence surrounding suicide in law enforcement, not with blame or politics, but with compassion, truth, and action.

Jeff believes that behind every badge is a human being, someone’s father, sister, partner, or friend. His work reminds us that healing is possible, and that a culture of strength must also make space for vulnerability. Through his partnership with Wholehearted, Jeff continues to honor those lost, uplift those still struggling, and help create a future where mental health is treated as essential to service not separate from it.
